First Art Exhibit

Image
It will be my first time to participate in an art exhibit to be held this November (20th 2009). “ My little Art Place ” (the gallery) has been kind enough to let me ship my works to the gallery before the deadline of submission. Here are the works I’m submitting: 12x12” Oil Pastel on Sandpaper

I never thought I’d ever try Acrylic paints or use brushes. I was content with my pastels until I was sent a set of brushes and acrylic paints. Reluctant I gave them a try, just to please my supplier. My first works were so unpromising BUT I liked the strokes and effect the brushes were creating so I practiced and practiced AND still practicing. I don’t think I’ve perfected, not even nearly, their use but I’ve grown to like them. There’s a horde of art mediums out there for anyone interested and willing to try them, to use. Don’t limit yourself to just one. Experiment, be adventurous. Have fun being artistic, after all, it’s your work, it’s personal. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, it’s art. Find the one that suits you best BUT it doesn’t hurt to try others at the same time. Although pastels are still my favorite, I’ve a few collections of acrylic ones and prefer them for cards.

See the different works of 12 Christian artists including those of Pastor Rodel “Piolo” Buban. Please do drop by and get to shake hands with the artists themselves and I swear, we won’t mind you buying a masterpiece or two.

Recycled masterpiece

My dad happened to find a withered coconut shell one time he was out walking to church and his ingenuity kicked in. He took it home, cut it in half, put a latch on it, polished it, finished it up with varnish and turned it into an odd shaped mini chest with the verse Matt. 6: 18-19. I loved it the first time I saw it and asked him if I could have it. So now, the “once” dull, dry, worthless coconut shell being kicked around in the street by passersby has become the keeper of my bead earrings, a masterpiece from a creative mind.
